News from Accrington [slightly belated]

Prior to the November meeting Accrington Circle held their Annual Mass for Deceased Brothers. The Celebrant was Fr Alfred Rebello, a former Accrington Circle member.

During the meal that followed Mike Neild was presented with the 50-year scroll by National Vice President Phil Brown. Around 90 people attended the celebrations including many visitors especially from Chorley Circle for which Mike has great affection.

He grew up in a Catenian environment as his father Fred was a Past President of Chorley Circle and his father-in-law, Bill Sturzaker. was a Past President of both Blackburn and Accrington Circles. The family tradition carries on as son Andy is a member of Accrington Circle. Over the years Mike has served the Circle well in many rolls. He was Secretary for many years, President in 1982-3 and 2004-5 and Provincial Councillor. His earlier spell as President was difficult for Mike and his wife Barbara as they had four young boys to look after and arranging baby-sitters had to be carried out with military like precision.
