Over the last 12 months, members and their families from the Burnley Circle (54) have been raising funds for the Handicapped Children’s Pilgrimage Trust, East Lancs Group 72.  Various events have been held including a house party, raffles at monthly meetings and a concert featuring the Nelson Arion Male Voice Choir in conjunction with the Knights of St Columba.

An Appeal for Help!

My late father was the President of the Catenian Circle of
Westmorland some years ago. His name was Jack Liness.

I am one of the parents on the Parents and  Friends' Association of St Cuthbert's RC School in Windermere. I am desperately trying to find some money to
replace the floor in the hall next to St Herbert's church. It must be
49 yrs old. The children from the school use it for their lunch and
also for PE. Sometimes it's used by an independent user for dance and
also by the parishioners for coffee mornings.

It's in a terrible state and wants replacing. I've had a could've of quotes and it's going to cost in the region of £5,000 to £6000 to replace.

I know money is tight for everyone. I have tried applying for funding from various pots of cash but can't access it because it's deemed to be for just Catholics so
they won't fund anything to promote religion. Thetruth is the school has
various faiths attending and the hall is used by others in  the local
community, not just Catholics.

I respectfully ask if the Catenian Association can help us? I am willing to meet with the local President or his representative to discuss further and show various quotes I have received. Father Kevan DOrgan is aware of the project to replace the floor.

I would be ever so grateful if the Catenian Association could help In raising the funds we need to make the church hall fit for purpose.

Regards

Vocations icons

As part of the Year for Vocations a number of icons of St Jean Marie Vianney, (Curie D'Ars) patron saint of all parish clergy, have been ‘written’ at Hyning Monastery.  It was here that the icons were blessed with the oil of Chrism and presented to representatives of each deanery.   Two of the representatives were Brother Wilf Gill of North Lancs and Bro. President Adrian Crook of Lytham St Annes.  Circles within the Diocese of Lancaster had been asked to sponsor the icons and a number had responded.  The icons are initially going to be used as part of a Novena in the days leading up to Pentecost taking place in various churches across each deanery with a final Diocesan Mass for Vocations in St Peter's Cathedral, Lancaster at Pentecost (Sunday, 24 May).  This year is the 200th anniversary of St John Vianney’s ordination.

Limericks (no 3)

There was a young Robert from Lytham,
Who thought he had plenty of rhythm.
On the stage he appeared,
By the audience, cheered.
His costume, by Oxfam, was given.

Limericks (no 2)

Here's John Whiteside's effort....

Catenians are people you’ll find
who are all of a similar mind.
They meet up up to declare
that the Lord is quite fair
if you follow the text and your mind

Once a month they gather together
they meet what ever the weather
to share friendship and a common spirit
the idea of course is to visit
brothers far and wide forever

Their meetings are ever so formal
Jacket and tie at least is normal
but occasionally they dress up all the way
with bow ties and medals they eat drink and pray
and afterwards they are accommodational

Their families are their main source
of fun laughter and discourse
but seriously though
it is to others they know
that they spread charity and happiness of course

Wanted - Someone who can write proper limericks

ONLY KIND COMMENTS PLEASE!

There once was a Catenian Officer
Who wanted a new look to share
So he had a suit made
In a striking blue shade
For the Bro's to adopt at their meeting

Provincial Vice President, Robert Thompson was appearing in a Who dunnit, Who Dumped Humpty, with Our Lady Star of the Sea Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, St Annes on Sea. He gave an excellent performance as Rumpelstiltskin disguised as Little Boy Blue, who was trying to recover a Magic Mirror when Humpty Dumpty fell from the wall. There were many more twists and turns to the story, too many to get over in this article, you had to be there!  H & F S
