Michael delighted to get his 50 year scroll.

Provincial President, Peter Western, was delighted to present a 50 years' scroll to Michael Bowley of Broughton in Craven Circle 212.
Michael is a well loved member of the circle. His working life was spent down south as an architect where he was involved in many large projects. This meant that he met many famous figures including the Queen Mother.
He joined a North London circle in 1968 and was an active member. After retiring he moved to Thornton in  Craven in order to be nearer his family. Lately, Michael has moved to Abbeyfield Care Home in Skipton and is a popular member of the community.
Michael joined Broughton in Craven when he moved and has been an active member attending meetings regularly and enjoying functions.
We, as a circle, are very proud of him and are grateful for his example.
This was also brother Peter Western's  'last but one' circle visit of his year. We were delighted to have him with us and thank him for an excellent year.
Circle President, Chris Beesley, who you will see from the picture had dressed up for the occasion,     thanked all present for their support during his presidential year and welcomed Brother Michael Limb who will be taking over in April as new President.

Au revoir Blackpool and congraulations Des

The March meeting of Blackpool & The Fylde Circle 25 was very well attended despite the cold chilly windy night.  Brothers had come from around Province to say farewell to the Circle and wish its Brothers and ladies support as they move on.

After the meeting over ninety people sat down to an excellent meal followed by Director Mark Conroy presenting Des Stevenson with his 40-years scroll of membership.  A wonderful end to a sad occasion.

Provincial weekend 3

Following the Mass on the Sunday morning the group photos were taken of those who hadn't snook away.  Because of the width of the room two pictures were taken.  The third photo is of the Provincial President and Vice President and Director and their ladies.

Provincial weekend 2

The Gala Ball at Tankersley Manor was as great success – excellent food, well served followed by a suburb disco as you will see from the photos below.  Some of the images are blurred which shows have fast some of the dancers were moving.  Well done Peter and Joan and your cohorts.  Still to come the group photos.

Accrington's latest events

At their March meeting Accrington Circle enrolled Kevin Holden into the Association. Whilst the meeting was in progress the ladies were entertained by Guest Speaker Dave Parkes, a retired Special Education Teacher and Consultant, who gave a brief account of his career along with interesting and amusing anecdotes. During the meal that followed Director Mark Conroy presented Paul Lawrenson with a scroll for 40 years membership of the Association and Karen Dabrowski presented Dorothy Lawrenson with a bouquet of flowers. Two amusing speeches from Mark and Paul then followed. A cheque for over £220 was handed over to the Guest Speaker for his chosen charity, East Lancashire Hospice. This was made up from the proceeds of a raffle and private donations.

Question Time? Young people and Politics

Rachel Lord, the younger daughter of John and Samantha Lord of Preston & District (144) Circle, went along with her dad to the broadcast of BBC's 'Question Time' from Blackpool
on the 1st March.

Rachel, a student of Politics, submitted her own question and this was selected to be the opening question in the programme!

Rachel is preparing her question:
"With less than 400 days until Britain leaves the EU, has the government wasted the last 616 days?"

No, Rachel didn't sit on the panel but she was asked to be a
'stand-in' along with four other people while the engineers tested the microphones before the broadcast.

Who's that with Rachel??!!
(The full broadcast can be seen on the BBC iPlayer.)
