As part of
the Year for Vocations a number of icons of
St Jean Marie Vianney, (Curie D'Ars) patron saint of all parish clergy, have
been ‘written’ at Hyning Monastery. It was
here that the icons were blessed with the oil of
Chrism and presented to representatives of each deanery. Two of
the representatives were Brother Wilf Gill of North Lancs and Bro. President Adrian
Crook of Lytham St Annes. Circles within
the Diocese of Lancaster had been asked to sponsor the icons and a number had
responded. The icons are initially going
to be used as part of a Novena in the days leading up to Pentecost taking place
in various churches across each deanery with a final Diocesan Mass for Vocations
in St Peter's Cathedral, Lancaster at Pentecost (Sunday, 24 May). This year is the
200th anniversary of St John Vianney’s ordination.
