Garstang Circle - Bursary Award

After Garstang Circle's monthly meeting on Thursday 17th March, 2016, at the Garstang Country Hotel, a £600 cheque  from the Catenian Association Bursary Fund was presented to Miss Hannah Spencer, of Cabus near Garstang, by Brother Terence Donnelly, the Immediate Past-Provincial President and Brother Tom Ibison, President of Garstang Circle,.

Hannah is 22 years of age and resides with her parents at their Cabus home. She is a parishioner of St. Mary & Michael's Church, Garstang.

About 18 months ago Hannah left university with a degree in Environmental Sciences. Shortly after leaving university she spent two months in Madagascar to further her environmental experience. She is currently working in the Envronmental Science Department at Lancaster University.

On 24th March 2016 Hannah will be travelling to Nepal with the Voluntary Overseas Program to undertake three months voluntary work helping the people there whose lives were devastated by the earthquake in Kathmandu. Hannah will live with one of the families.

In recent months, Hannah has organised a number of fund-raising projects in connection with her forthcoming work. One such project was to raise money so she could purchase books,
pens and pencils to help towards the children's education when she arrives in Nepal

Hannah applied to the Catenian Association Bursary Fund for a grant and on 11th March. She was the receipient of wonderful news when she learnt she had been awarded a £600 grant from the Bursary Fund for the sole benefit of the struggling people in Nepal. Hannah was surrounded by her family for the presenation.

LSA Charity night - a great success

Bro. President Adrian was well pleased with the response to his charity sing-a-long with members of Our Lady Star of the Sea Operatic & Dramatic Society and pianist Dave Thomas.  Everybody was given a booklet with the words to songs from musicals to enable them to join in fully.  The evening raised over £650 for Brian House, the children's wing of Trinity Hospice, the hospice for the Fylde.
