LSA Ladies Evening

Last weekend Lytham St Annes Circle held its annual Ladies Evening to which the Presidents and their Ladies of the other circles in the Province were invited.  The evening started with members attending the 6pm Saturday mass at St Joseph’s, Ansdell.  Fr David not only welcomed us butalso spoke of our aims and values in his homily.  We were then mentioned in the Bidding Prayers as well as in the newsletter. Following mass we assembled at the Glendower Hotel, St Annes for an excellent meal.  After the brief speeches and toasts there followed dancing to local entertainer Michael Cosgrove.

A number of events followed Garstang Circle's monthly meeting recently
at the Garstang Country Hotel, which was a ladies evening:
Following a very successful President's Charity Evening in March this year in aid of St. John's Hospice, Lancaster, a presentation took place immediately following the meeting, when, for the second year in succession, Brother Steve Masterman, who was
President at the time of the Charity Evening, presented another cheque for £1,000-00 to a representative of St. John's Hospice, Mr.Chris Pilkington.

Following the Charity Presentation the Circle's Annual Putting Competition took place on the green adjacent to the hotel and the winner was Brother Frank Morlidge of Garstang Circle.

LONGRIDGE CIRCLE THEATRE VISIT

At the outbreak of World War One, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the Cavalry and shipped to France. He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. Albert, who remained on his parents’ Devon farm, cannot forget Joey. Though still not old enough to enlist he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.

Based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness. At its heart are astonishing life-sized horses by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, who bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.

On Thursday 14th June 2018, 100 years to the day after a British successful midnight attack north of Bethune along La Bassee Canal, on the Western Front, Longridge Circle, with some friends, went to The Lowry Theatre in Salford Quays to see the superb production of "WARHORSE".

Furness celebration

There were many visitors (dozens) at Furness Circle's meeting to congratulate Bro. Brian Tate on reaching 50 years with the Association.  He was presented with his scroll by GB National President Bro. John Hogan and is seen here with his wife Collette.

ANOTHER CRACKING NIGHT AT LONGRIDGE CIRCLE

With 71 booked in for the Circle meeting and meal and 27 of those from Brooklands Circle there was warning signs of an eventful evening.
The meeting opened routinely enough with prayers, but then took an unexpected turn with Acting Vice President Ted giving notice of some health and safety issues recently published by National Council pertaining to meetings with the number of visitors exceeding 12.
To pre-empt any misunderstanding, I quote these guidelines in full:
“In the event that a Circle adopts the procedure of introducing visitors and requesting that they remain standing until all are announced, the following are issued by National Council for guidance only:-
      1. The VP and Registrar shall observe all visitors as they sign in and walk to their seats and shall carry out a Risk Assessment as to how long the visitors may reasonably be expected to stand.
       2. All visitors are advised that to prevent swelling of the feet they loosen their shoe laces.
       3. As the VP announces the name of the visitor, the visitor shall stand by planting two feet firmly on the floor and engage his core muscles.
       4. In the event that a visitor is unaware of the location of his core muscles or being aware, is unsure if he has engaged them, he shall, before he attends another Circle meeting, seek medical advice.”

The above was greeted with great hilarity and much guffawing but set the tone for the rest of the serious business of the night …ENJOYMENT and FUN.

(See If you can spot the members in T shirts and jeans!!!!!!)

President Mike calls all to order, not easy in a bay view window.

It's the way you tell 'em Jim

Barbara's got her eye on that view

Mary posing for the camera!

Have these two gone home? All the more for Peter!

I think I'll try the rice pudding says Nina.

"Food tastes better when you eat it with your friends."

"Drinking good wine with good food in good company is one of life's most civilised pleasures."
The Brooklands contingent with Mike and Bridget

All agreed that the night had been a great success and hopefully will become an annual event.
Friendships were made, some strengthened, the spirit of our great Association is alive and well in Longridge Circle (and of course, in Brooklands Circle).

FRIENDSHIP AND FUN THROUGH GOOD FOOD, GOOD WINE AND GOOD COMPANY.
