Garstang Circle celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Garstang Country Hotel on Thursday, 16th April, 2015, in the presence of the Grand President Brother Bob Butler, who presented scrolls and miniatures to long serving members.
Unfortunately, because of ill health, two brothers were unable to attend on the night, so the Grand President kindly agreed to make presentations at their homes.
Firstly, Brother Bill Sharples, now 91 years, his presentation took place on Thursday afternoon (16th April) when he was presented with a scroll for 70 years continuous membership of the Association. Bill joined Preston 14 Circle on 27th March, 1945, where his late father was a member. Both became founder members of Garstang Circle when it was inaugurated on 29th April, 1965. His father was the first President and Brother Bill was his Vice President, succeeding his father 12 months later as President.
He holds the distinction of being the second longest serving member in the Catenian Association.
The second presentation took place on the morning of Friday, 17th April, when Brother Tom Horn was the recipient of a 50 year scroll and miniature from the Grand President. Brother Tom was a founder member of the Circle and was
President in 1978-79.
