Broughton in Craven circle celebrated enrolments in January and February to mark the start of 2018. In January we welcomed Simon Manley into the circle. Simon originates from Worcestershire where he attended Grammar school and completed a three year commercial apprenticeship. Simon completed a BSc in Sociology at Buckinghamshire college.
He began his career in the glass manufacturing industry becoming export manager. He then transferred to the textile industry again as export manager of a large company in West Yorkshire. Simon then succeeded in winning a scholarship to study Marketing Management At Ontario University in Canada. Following this he became General Manager of a company based in Auckland New Zealand. In 1988 he returned to the UK becoming UK Sales Manager for a large Italian company retiring in 2016. He still does some work as a consultant in the glass and stone engineering business.
He has been married to Mary for 43 years. Mary is a career Secondary teacher of English who worked in Catholic Education. They have three children, Bethany, Tim and Philip. They also have three grandchildren.
Mary and Simon are members of the community at Saint Stephen's RC church in Skipton. As a circle we wish Simon and Mary a long and happy membership.
In Ferbruary we enrolled Mr Tony Durkin into the circle. Tony was born in Keighley West Yorkshire of Irish decent. He attended Saint Joseph's' RC and Saint Anne's Secondary school.
On leaving school Tony took up an apprenticeship in plumbing, gaining City and Guilds Professional qualifications. Tony met Maureen, who was born in Burnley, and they married in 1971. They have two children John and Shelley, and four Grandchildren.
Tony started his own business in 1973 retiring in 2015. Maureen and Tony now live in a small village in the Yorkshire Dales called Stainforth not too far from Settle where they attend Saints Mary and Michael RC church. They enjoy the outside life cycling and walking.
We all wish Tony and Maureen a long and happy membership of our circle.
