Bishop John Arnold

Pope Francis has named Bishop John Arnold, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Westminster, as the new Bishop of Salford. 

He will succeed Bishop Terence John Brain as the eleventh Bishop of Salford.

On hearing of his appointment, Bishop Arnold, Bishop-elect of Salford said: “I accept the appointment as Bishop of Salford with much trepidation but will do all I can to serve the people, priests, and religious of the Church of this Diocese as we all seek to respond to Pope Francis’ call to be ‘missionary disciples’.

A Happy Reunion!

When Province 10 invited Grand President Bob Butler and his wife Kathy to their Summer Ball at the Pines Hotel, Chorley, it was not long before it was revealed that they had both been there before.  Forty-nine years ago Bob travelled up from Devon to attend the wedding of his friend, Geoffrey, and there met Kathy, a local girl from nearby Bolton and a friend of the bride, Brenda.  Well, to say that Bob and Kathy hit it off is an understatement because TWELVE days later they were engaged to be married, the event taking place the following year. 

Grand President commented on how well the Ball was attended and that he always got a good reception in Province 10, this being his third visit so far.  There were brothers and their wives from all circles in the province and some from beyond, including members of Grand Council and those responsible for this publication.

Province 10's new Director

At the Provincial Council meeting on June 30th 2014, Brother Mark Conroy was elected as Director of Province 10.

Two Past Grand Presidents, Brothers Mike O'Malley and Tony Godden acted as scrutineers and Bro. Past Grand President, Brian Hargreaves attended to see that there was no collusion by anybody at any time!!

Bro. Provincial President, Terence Donnelly, on behalf of the Province congratulated Bro Mark on his success and wished both Mark and Maxine every good wish for their time at Grand Council. He also thanked the other candidates who had submitted their names for the vacant position of Director following the sudden and unexpected death of the previous Director, Bro. Philip Morris.
