ANOTHER CRACKING NIGHT AT LONGRIDGE CIRCLE

With 71 booked in for the Circle meeting and meal and 27 of those from Brooklands Circle there was warning signs of an eventful evening.

The meeting opened routinely enough with prayers, but then took an unexpected turn with Acting Vice President Ted giving notice of some health and safety issues recently published by National Council pertaining to meetings with the number of visitors exceeding 12.

To pre-empt any misunderstanding, I quote these guidelines in full:

“In the event that a Circle adopts the procedure of introducing visitors and requesting that they remain standing until all are announced, the following are issued by National Council for guidance only:-

      1. The VP and Registrar shall observe all visitors as they sign in and walk to their seats and shall carry out a Risk Assessment as to how long the visitors may reasonably be expected to stand.

       2. All visitors are advised that to prevent swelling of the feet they loosen their shoe laces.

       3. As the VP announces the name of the visitor, the visitor shall stand by planting two feet firmly on the floor and engage his core muscles.

       4. In the event that a visitor is unaware of the location of his core muscles or being aware, is unsure if he has engaged them, he shall, before he attends another Circle meeting, seek medical advice.”

The above was greeted with great hilarity and much guffawing but set the tone for the rest of the serious business of the night …ENJOYMENT and FUN.

All agreed that the night had been a great success and hopefully will become an annual event.

Friendships were made, some strengthened, the spirit of our great Association is alive and well in Longridge Circle (and of course, in Brooklands Circle).
