LONGRIDGE CYCLE GROUP

On a beautiful summer's morning 7th July, Richard led a dedicated group of cyclists on a ride from Carnforth through Silverdale to Arnside and back. All before the 3.00pm kick off of England v Sweden.

 Richard's convinced "Football's coming home" or maybe he's just posing!!

Turning off down a minor road signposted to Silverdale. The official Lancashire Coastal Way actually runs on a parallel road along the slopes of Warton Crag above us, but this route is closer to the coast.

 At the end of the curved bank is a mysterious tower. It looks old, but remarkably intact, considering its exposed position.  We find out the tower is the remains of a copper smelting works.

  The dramatic line of the Kent viaduct… but it’s for trains only.

Round a corner and Arnside comes in sight, lit up by the sun. It looks wonderful.

LONGRIDGE CIRCLE WALKING GROUP

On a fabulously sunny warm day 27th June Longridge walking group set off on a circular walk from the Spread Eagle Inn at Sawley. 
Plenty of parking in the pub car park opposite the inn and along from the 12th century Cistercian Abbey.
The post code is BB7 4NH.

The Inn is in the village which is signposted off the A59, just past Clitheroe. 
The walk followed the Ribble Way towards Clitheroe and then led up to Grindleton and back through the lanes and countryside to the start point. There are a few stiles and uphill sections but nothing serious, a little rough ground so boots are recommended. 

The Grindleton Heritage Trail is designed to commemorate the Millennium and provides an insight into an appreciation of the local area and its history and is worth a visit.

LSA Ladies Evening

Last weekend Lytham St Annes Circle held its annual Ladies Evening to which the Presidents and their Ladies of the other circles in the Province were invited.  The evening started with members attending the 6pm Saturday mass at St Joseph’s, Ansdell.  Fr David not only welcomed us butalso spoke of our aims and values in his homily.  We were then mentioned in the Bidding Prayers as well as in the newsletter. Following mass we assembled at the Glendower Hotel, St Annes for an excellent meal.  After the brief speeches and toasts there followed dancing to local entertainer Michael Cosgrove.

A number of events followed Garstang Circle's monthly meeting recently

at the Garstang Country Hotel, which was a ladies evening:

Following a very successful President's Charity Evening in March this year in aid of St. John's Hospice, Lancaster, a presentation took place immediately following the meeting, when, for the second year in succession, Brother Steve Masterman, who was

 President at the time of the Charity Evening, presented another cheque for £1,000-00 to a representative of St. John's Hospice, Mr.Chris Pilkington.

Following the Charity Presentation the Circle's Annual Putting Competition took place on the green adjacent to the hotel and the winner was Brother Frank Morlidge of Garstang Circle.
