LSA INSTALLATION AND PRESENTATION EVENING

At our April meeting PGP Mike O'Malley was installed as Circle President for a second time.  However this is a stop gap for six months only.  We were unfortunate in losing two Brothers lined up take on the Presidency.  As a pure co-incidence one of our visitors was GB National President Bro. David Arundale.

Following the excellent meal (the head waiter said he had never taken away so many clean plates) various presentations were made.

Immediate past Circle President Bro. Charles Murphy presented a cheque to Mr Jack Regan of Castlerigg Manor, the Lancaster Diocesan youth facility.  This had been Charles's charity for the second of his two-year stint as Circle President.  Brother Charles was presented with a miniature to recognise his term in office.

Brother Mike presented GB National President with a cheque for the Benevolent Fund, of which he is a trustee, as was Mike for many years; and his wife Maureen was given a gift to remind them of their visit.

Farewell to Chorley President Jack Knight

A party of Chorley Brothers and wives met on 29th March at The Cavendish Arms, Brindle, to thank President Jack Knight and his wife, Marian, for leading the Circle for the past two years, and through the difficulties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jack and Marian were presented with gifts from the Circle, and the meal and evening were enjoyed by all.

PROVINCIAL INSTALLATION 2022 (1)

On Sunday 20 March 2022 Brother John Waddingham of Preston & District Circle was installed as Provincial President.  Also installed was Bro. Andrew Snape as Provincial Councillor for Accrington Circle.  The event took place at Ferrari's Restaurant, Longridge and 90 people sat down to have a good meal up to the usual standards of the restaurant.  Unfortunately not all Circles were represented.

CELEBRATIONS AT CHORLEY

There were two events to celebrate at Chorley Circle’s March meeting – a 40th anniversary and a further presentation to President’s Charity.

Brother Bernard Kiley joined Chorley Circle in January 1982, and has been a dedicated Catenian ever since, supported by his wife, Carole, until she passed away in 2019. He has held several Offices in the Circle, serving as President three times, Provincial Councillor, Charity Officer, Treasurer, and Secretary; he has also been President of Province 10.  Born in Kingston upon Thames, Bernard spent his working life as an accountant, first in the City of London, then working for various companies, and moving to Chorley in 1973. He is a staunch football supporter, his first love being Chelsea FC, but, each year, he does purchase a season ticket for Bolton Wanderers, and tries to attend every home game at the University of Bolton Stadium. Mark Conroy, Director of Province 10, presented Bernard with his 40-years scroll at a celebratory dinner attended by about 40 Brothers and ladies.

In spite of lockdowns and disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, in 2021/22 Chorley Circle raised £3,850 for Derian House Children’s Hospice, the chosen Charity of Circle President Jack Knight. That sum is in addition to £4,000 Jack raised in 2020/21. At the dinner a cheque for £3,850 was presented to Mick Croskerry, fund-raiser for the Hospice, who had given a talk to the ladies about the Hospice and its work, whilst the men held the Circle meeting.
